Bridget VanderStelt receives check from coach John O’Brien

Lainey Peterson is a member of the U16 Girls Sailors travel team. On July 1 2008 her step-father, Troy VanderStelt, was killed. John O’Brien (coach of her team and coaching director of the travel program) decided that the Sailors needed to assist Lainey and her family. He decided to do a goalathon with all the travel teams and with Saior Soccer president Tania Hoover’s approval, he spoke to the travel coaches about the concept. The idea was that for every goal a team scored, the parents would contribute 25 cents, which was collected by the team managers at the end of the season. In total, $607 dollars was generated. A number of families also gave donations. After the season John presented Bridget VanderStelt with a check from the club. Thanks to all the teams who took part in this good cause.

Welcome to Sailor Soccer!

The Sailor Soccer Club proudly provides opportunities for area youth to play soccer regardless of their skill level or playing experience. On the recreational level, we field teams from U6 through U19 in boys, girls and co-ed divisions as part of the Great Lakes Co-Ed Soccer League (GLCSL). The Sailor Select travel teams are comprised of more experienced players and engage on a competitive level as part of the Grand Valley Soccer Association (GVSA). Players interested in playing on Select teams must participate in a tryout or evaluation, after which the teams are selected by the Sailor Soccer Club selection staff.
